‘People Cards’: Google’s New User-Created Public Profile System

Google is testing a new user-created public profile system called “people cards” which let users create their own profile that will directly appear in Google search results.

People Cards are like a virtual visiting card, where users can highlight existing websites or social profiles, plus other information that others want to know. It is similar to how celebrities and businesses appear.

The new care is only being tested in India in English to start.

The goal is to make sure people can find helpful and reliable information, and a variety of protections and controls in place to maintain the quality of information on people’s cards.

Also, only one person’s card is allowed per Google Account, and a phone number is required to authenticate the account to avoid trolls and harassers creating fake cards. 

Google will let you flag cards with bad information or that you think were created by an imposter, and users will be able to delete or edit their cards whenever they’d like.

Google aims to address these challenges with people cards: “Today, we are solving these challenges with a new feature called people cards. It’s like a virtual visiting card, where you can highlight your existing website or social profiles you want people to visit, plus other information about yourself that you want others to know.”
