Philip Morris unveils new smokeless cigarettes

Philip Morris Inc. continues their campaign on smoke-free society as they unveil two new versions of iQOS device.

Philip Morris International built the world’s most successful cigarette company, with the world’s most popular and iconic brands. PMI’s vision is to offer smokers a better choice. To make this vision a reality, PMI is now developing and testing products that deliver nicotine without the harmful smoke of cigarettes – yet that consumers will find satisfying.

PMI is developing new products with the potential to replace cigarettes and these products will not contain smoke but will still have nicotine and a taste that can satisfy existing smokers. PMI’s new product portfolio features a range of nicotine-containing alternatives without the smoke.

iQOS is PMI’s most advanced smoke-free product and uses sophisticated electronics that heat tobacco just enough to release a flavorful nicotine-containing vapor but without burning the tobacco. iQOS is now available to more than 40 markets around the world.

Today, PMI again unleashed their upgraded version of iQOS – the iQOS 3 and iQOS 3 Multi. The iQOS 3 is more compact than iQOS. It comes with a case that charges the device and can be opened at the side. It also has a side door where you can insert headsticks instead of one on top. Meanwhile, iQOS 3 Multi can be used 10 times before recharging it again and is bulkier than the iQOS device.

The new version aims to further encourage a growing number of smokers to switch to the benefit of their health. iQOS 3 and iQOS 3 Multi is expected to be available in Japan and South Korea in the next few weeks.

Andre Calantzopoulos, CEO of PMI, said that PMI’s dream is to create a better alternative for smokers, and iQOS has made this dream a reality. The iQOS 3 and iQOS 3 Multi deliver significant improvement and innovation and mark another step toward convincing everyone who would otherwise continue to smoke to switch to smoke-free alternatives, he further added.

According to him, updating the product and integrating them to consumer’s feedback and insights is now a need and investors can expect to see the effect of the new devices on the company’s financial results.

PMI also introduced HEETS, a less expensive line of heatsticks. It is a specially designed heated tobacco unit that is intended to be exclusively used with the iQOS holder. HEETS are made up of elements that include a tobacco plug, hollow acetate tube, polymer-film filter, cellulose-acetate mouthpiece filter, and outer and mouth-end papers.

PMI is still waiting for the decision from the Food and Drug Administration on whether they can sell iQOS in the U.S.
