Dave Stephenson is the new CFO of Airbnb after almost ten months of searching in preparation of its IPO in 2019.
After Laurence Tosi leaves his position as CFO of Airbnb in February of 2018, Ellie Mertz served as interim CFO of the company. The position has been open to all candidates and after almost ten months of searching, the company finally hired Dave Stephenson.
According to Brian Chesky, CEO of Airbnb, Stephenson was one of the best financial operators in the world and there’s no one better prepared to serve as CFO of Airbnb. He also added that he is so proud of everything the company had achieved and that Airbnb is just getting started. He believes that Stephenson will drive the company even more efficient and leverage which will make Airbnb a unique business and to continue expanding.
The hiring of Stephenson is a sign of the preparation in the most anticipated IPO of Airbnb in 2019. He will begin in January and will report to directly to Chesky.
Stephenson is not the first Amazon executive that Airbnb has hired. Last March, the company also hired Greg Greely as their President of Homes.
