Amazon, the largest e-commerce marketplace and cloud computing platform in the world, have been engaging with smart home products lately. As part of their expansion in smart home products, the retail giant has acquired the wifi startup eero.
eero is the first mesh home WiFi system that blankets any home in reliable and secure WiFi. Co-founded by Amos Schallich, Nick Weaver, and Nate Hardison in 2014, eero’s goal is to make WiFi so good that users never think about WiFi again.
In a statement, Senior Vice President of Amazon devices and services, David Limp said both companies shared a vision that the smart home experience can get even easier, and they are committed to continue innovating on behalf of customers. He also said that they are incredibly impressed with the eero team and how quickly they invented a WiFi solution that makes connected devices just work.
In line with Amazon’s principle ‘commitment to operational excellence‘, Eero has easy-to-use app wherein customers can up the system in under 10 minutes, share their network, program parental controls, and run speed test on demand. In fact, Amazon customers are already delighted by eero’s products and services.
eero systems are self-updating, self-fixing, and self-improving all the time. It communicates with the cloud to receive instructions and updates. Customers can customize an eero system to meet the needs of their home – regardless of shape or size – eliminating dead zones, ensuring perfect streaming in every room, and delivering the bandwidth all connected devices need.
Nick Weaver, Co-founder and CEO of eero said that eero’s mission has been to make the technology homes just work. According to him, they started WiFi because it’s the foundation of the modernhome. Every customer deserves reliable and secure WiFi in every room.
In eero’s twitter, the weaver said that joining the Amazon family, they are excited to learn from and work closely with a team that is defining the furue of the home, accelerate their mission, and bring eero system to customers around the globe.
Weaver states that you have to be able to react quickly to customers, and at the same time, you have to think far enough ahead to think about what the harware needs to do in the future.
Terms and details of the deal have yet to be disclosed.
