Facebook Adds Custom Backgrounds for Messenger Rooms

Facebook announced a range of updates for its Messenger Rooms video hangout option, including new custom backgrounds and personalizing Rooms experience.

With more people separated or working from home due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Zoom competitor also added a more streamlined way to find and create rooms on mobile.

To personalize your room, you can now customize backgrounds with your own photos and home videos. It’ll be available on mobile in the next few weeks.

In a Messenger Team blog post, “You can create a room with a default, suggested or custom activity, set a future start date and customize your audience selection.”

Other changes impact Rooms’ management. You can now create a Room with a default, suggested or custom activity, set a future start date, and customize your audience selection, Facebook says.

In addition, the Manage Rooms feature will let you view,  join, edit, or later delete the rooms you have created, or invite more people to join an existing Room.

On the personalization front, Messenger is beginning to roll out a new way to customize Rooms’ experience. Users now will be able to decorate the background of the Room with your own photos, in addition to the previously offered options to use 360-degree backgrounds and mood lighting filters.

Messenger Rooms launched in May to compete with services like Zoom, Skype, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams.
