“Vice-president of global affairs and communications” – Clegg’s new title. He will lead Facebook’s global affairs and communications team.

Facebook continues to hire staff in preparation for a battle against new internet regulation. Nick Clegg, former leader of the Liberal Democrats and deputy prime minister between 2010 and 2015, was hired by Facebook Inc. to lead their global affairs and communications team.

The social network giant said, CEO Mark Zuckerberg and COO Sheryl Sandberg were closely engaged with the hiring process and are in talks with Clegg over the summer.

Sandberg stated on her Facebook post that the company was on a critical journey addressing the challenges that the company has been facing nowadays and said that they need a new perspective to help Facebook in times like this.

Clegg’s transfer to the social network industry did not leave him of the dark joke “It’s a promotion!” in which the idea was “Facebook executive is more powerful than a deputy prime minister” – a sentiment that is wrong.

Paddy Ashdown said to stop criticizing his former colleague stating that Clegg’s reputation as a powerful voice for liberalism and democracy will now depend on his ability to persuade Facebook to be a global campaigner for the same values.

Clegg was very optimistic about what technology can bring to society and added that the social media giant will work with governments, regulators, and civic society thoroughly to find solutions created by the Internet.

Clegg will report to Sandberg starting on Monday and his family will relocate to California in the new year.
