Anki is a robotics and artificial intelligence startup that puts robotics technology in products for kids. The company aims to bring Artificial Intelligence out of labs and into people’s everyday lives. With the mission of “We bring objects to life through robotics and artificial intelligence, allowing people to build relationships with technology that feel a little more human,” Anki, creates robots that move the person.
One of its successful product is the Cozmo, a mini robot that has its own mind. This mini robot adopts and evolves human emotions the longer you hang-out with it. Cozmo was described as “The smartest, cutest AI-powered robot.”
Anki has nearly 200 employees and Boris Sofman, Anki’s CEO said that they will all be terminated because of financial issues. Despite raising $200 million in their venture capital, the company admitted that they weren’t able to gain the money that they need for expansion and future innovations.
A spokesperson said, “Despite our past successes, we pursued every financial avenue to fund our future product development and expand on our platforms. A significant financial deal at a late stage fell through with a strategic investor and we were not able to reach an agreement. We’re doing our best to take care of every single employee and their families, and our management team continues to explore all options available.”
