Rolls-Royce in Partnership with Uptake to predict engine performance

Rolls-Royce said on Tuesday, December 4, that they have partnered with the Chicago-based artificial intelligence Uptake.

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Limited is a British luxury automobile maker. It was established in 1998 after BMW was licensed the rights to the Rolls-Royce brand name and logo form Rolls-Royce plc and acquired the rights to the Spirit of Ecstacy and Rolls-Royce grill shape trademarks from Volkswagen AG. The Rolls-Royce Phantom four-door sedan was the first product offered for sale in 2003.

The automobile has partnered with Uptake, a Chicago-based artificial intelligence software maker to see possible issues in their Trent engine fleet.

Uptake is an industrial artificial intelligence (AI) software company that aims to help companies digitally transform with open, purpose-built software. Their products go beyond improving asset reliability and availability. They streamline operations, enhance efficiency and unlock new revenue channels. Uptake’s core products include an Asset Performance Management application and a fully managed platform.

Through the acquisition, Uptake’s software will give Rolls-Royce with a number of disparate datasets. These datasets will provide insights into the engine performance and will improve the availability of the engine fleet for airline customers.

Tom Palmer, senior vice president of services for Rolls-Royce civil aerospace business said that with industrial AI and machine learning techniques, Rolls-Royce can increase the uptime of their engines and help customers extend the life and value of their critical assets.
