Square appointed Amrita Ahuja as new CFO

Square finally found a new CFO – appointing Amrita Ahuja from Blizzard Activision after Sarah Friar leaves the company.

Square Inc. is a financial service, merchant services aggregator, and mobile payment company. It was founded by Jack Dorsey and Jim McKelvey in 2009 and launched its first app and service in 2010. Square Register allows individuals and merchants to accept offline debit and credit cards on their iOS or Android smartphones. The app was limited to some countries only including the United States, Canada, Japan, Australia, and the United Kingdom.

The payment company recently announced that they hired Amrita Ahuja, currently the CFO of Blizzard Activision, to be their new CFO after Sarah Friar leaves the company in October last year. Square’s shares dropped for about 30 percent after Friar left.

Square has been searching for a permanent CFO. Timothy Murphy and Mohit Daswani have been serving as interim finance chief while the CFO position was still empty.

According to Jack Dorsey, CEO of Square, he found a true leader in Ahuja and said that Ahuja brings the ability to consider and balance opportunities across the entire business, and she will help strengthen the company’s discipline as they invest, build, and scale. Ahuja was the one who rose to the top of the search because of her entrepreneurial qualities.
