Instagram announced on Monday, Dec. 10 the promotion of Vishal Shah from Director of Product Management to Head of Product effective immediately.
Vishal Shah joined Facebook’s photo-sharing app, Instagram, in the year 2015 as the Director of Product Management. The position was previously held by Adam Mosseri, who currently runs Instagram after the co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger left the platform in September.
Shah was working with Instagram for almost four years now and the platform thinks that it is better to bring someone within the team to take over the executive position instead of hiring a new one. He will be heading the consumer, business, and revenue products divisions, which includes search, explore, Ads, IGTV, and shopping as well.
Prior to Instagram, Shah spent ten years at Turn who held executive positions including Senior Director of Product Management and Director of Engineering. He was also an Analyst at Accenture and an Engineer at Redi2.
Shah did not give any comments about the promotion but a spokesperson from Facebook confirmed the promotion and said that Shah is an experienced manager with deep product knowledge who loves Instagram’s values of people first, simplicity, and craft.
Ashley Yuki, the product manager who is responsible for the video feature on Instagram, including IGTV, will succeed Shah’s old role.
