WannaCry made Apple Chip Maker TSMC Want to Cry

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is known or famous for being one of largest contract chip makers of the world. With that being said, various companies are partnered with TSMC with a strong conviction on their chip-making capabilities.

Over the short weekend reports gathered that the TSMC’s computer systems have been infiltrated by a mutation of the WannaCry Ransomware Virus – a type of virus, specifically a crypto worm that infects computer systems by the encryption of data into an unbreakable hash or code and demands ransom or huge payments through the bitcoin cryptocurrency.

The troublesome issue made the contract chip maker forcefully close parts of its factory to mitigate the spread of the virus to the other systems. The manufacturing tech giant denied the fact that their security was breached and a rupture of damage was done internally to the company. Chief Executive of the TSMC Company CC Wei mentioned in the reports that the people should not worry because such mistakes will not arise again.

Though TSMC immediately recovered from the ransomware attack, the magnitude of chaos that the WannaCry Virus created has created a foil in the chip makers productions and plans.

Apple, one of their biggest partners, might receive delay due to the issue at hand. September is drawing near and the productions for the new phones of Apple may create disruptions on the planned date of release.
