Megaworld donated P60 million for COVID-19 Test Labs set up

Real-estate company Megaworld joined the battle against COVID-19 pandemic – donating P60 million to PRC for test labs set up.

Megaworld, Andrew Tan’s real-estate company in the Philippines, has donated P60 million for the establishment of four testing laboratories to the Philippine Red Cross (PRC)  Metro Manila in support of battle the COVID-19 pandemic

Each test laboratory is incorporated with two reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) machines, one ribonucleic acid (RNA), a medical lab freezer, and a biosafety cabinet that preserve samples from contamination.

In a press release held on Tuesday (April 21, 2020), Megaworld’s Chief Strategy Officer Kevin Andrew Tan said, “This will further strengthen our government’s efforts in detecting COVID-19 cases so we can really get to focus on them and prevent more people from being infected. The Philippine Red Cross has the experience and capability to operate these testing laboratories, and we are confident that this project can greatly help in having more people tested fast.”

The new testing labs are suited to conduct at least 10,000 COVID-19 tests every day. Test results are released in just three hours, way faster than the traditional way of testing the COVID-19 samples.

“We continue to look for more projects and partnerships like this so we can further help (the) government in saving lives and beat(ing) the virus,” said Tan.

Megaworld, along with its subsidiaries, continuously help aid the fight against the pandemic through distributing food and grocery bags to healthcare and security front-liners around Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

The real-estate company also initiated a free transport for frontliners through its Citylink buses. Additionally, Megaworld Foundation, its socio-civic arm, also distributed facemasks to various foundations. Megaworld Hotels also distributed shower caps, toiletries like soap and shampoo and personal protective equipment (PPEs) to different hospitals and local government units around the country.
